What have I wrought?!

Filed under: General, Pop Culture — admin @ 12:01 am

So I helped a certain someone set up a blog and it has begun to consume her every waking thought. While it’s likely that the blog in question will not be up your alley if you’ve somehow stumbled here, I’ll give it a mention anyway. And be sure to buy the book when it comes out in early 2006. In the meantime, check out Some Like It Haute. There’s a Haiku there; I encourage you to leave a comment requesting an ode to footwear written in iambic pentameter.

Not Quite Famous, But Almost…Seriously

I’m a little late on this, but I recently read a pretty interesting article about the plight of reality TV “stars,” once they’ve finished the talk show circuit. I’d heard about these lecture and party circuits, but was always skeptical. I mean, who wants to see Joe Whomever from some show give a speech? Apparently, the answer involves enough people that these less-than-iconic everymen/women are able to make comfortable livings merely by showing up for appointments. A little notoriety — and in many cases, I mean very little — still seems to go a long way.

The Pope Pulls an Ashlee Simpson?

On the mend from another illness, the Pope gave a brief blessing from the window of his 10th floor hospital room. In his weakened state, the Pope’s words were difficult to understand, leading to allegations that the message was pre-recorded. Vatican spokespeople were adamant that the Pope hadn’t used a backing track.

In the evening, papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls denied in a statement Italian media speculation that the pope’s words were taped - not live.

“Naturally, the words of the Holy Father in the blessing this morning were pronounced at the very moment in which we heard them,” he said.

What’s next for the pontiff? Rumor has it that preacher-turned-music impressario Joe Simpson has his sights on a six album megadeal and reality show on MTV.

Ice Cold

Readers love lists, but I challenge them to find one that has two Baldwin brothers, both halves of Bennifer, Michael Moore AND George W. Bush. Can’t do it, can you? Film Threat has released its 2004 Frigid 50 — the most honest assessment of Hollywood players that I’ve ever seen.
